Analyzing quantitative data : an introduction for social researchers / Debra Wetcher-Hendricks.

Byalawa : The Byalawa resources are research-based multimedia learning and teaching resources designed to facilitate the acquisition of appropriate, culturally safe interviewing and case history taking skills in health profession students. The DVD scenarios are designed to be used in a range of situations and show speech pathology, physiotherapy, pharmacy, psychology, and occupational therapy initial interviews with indigenous patients in a range of urban settings.

Sydney Research Online

The University Library and the Research Portfolio have collaborated to establish a new service for staff and students of the University of Sydney - Sydney Research Online.

Sydney Research Online provides a repository of research material (articles, book chapters and conference papers) by University of Sydney researchers that have been reported for HERDC and ERA purposes. It represents a large body of research output produced by the staff at University from 2002 to the present.

Access to Sydney Research Online is restricted to the University of Sydney domain and is for use by staff and students for research and teaching purposes only. Sydney Research Online was developed as a result of a VC work-slate project to enable internal access to University research activity.

The digital repository can be found here - you will need your UniKey to access the material.

As a result of the large amount of research material collected for the HERDC and the ERA exercise, Sydney Research Online will progressively be built up over time. Initially we have made available journal articles; book chapters and conference papers and other types of material will follow. The service will be updated monthly.

Take a look at these new titles recently acquired by the Health Sciences Library.

The first is the 2011 WHO/World Bank report on disability.

The report is also available online.

The second title available is a unique publication on Indigenous research.

New eResources - Dynatomy Joints

Dynatomy is an educational program that makes anatomy "come alive". Dynatomy Muscles and Dynatomy Joints show how muscles and joints work. There are over 800 interactive animations of the human musculoskeletal system.

Dynatomy Joints
- Details animations of the structure of joints of the upper limb, lower limb and trunk.
- Movements associated with each joint.
- Relationship of different tissues associated with the joint

Dynatomy Muscles
- Attachments and actions of every muscle in the upper limb, lower limb and trunk.
- Layered and reflected muscles that easily identify positions of related structures

Both are available in Health Sciences, Medical and Nursing library. Ask at information desk for assistance.

Lexi-Comp Online for Dentistry/Oral Surgery

Contains information for dental students and academics with dental specific pharmacology information and drug interaction analysis tools

TOXINZ

Contains information regarding toxic compounds and the management of poisoned patients.

The Natural Standard Integrative Medicine

Provides evidence-based information about complementary and alternative therapies

Journal Trial: 'Research Synthesis Methods'

The Library is trialling a new journal, Research Synthesis Methods, until the end of the year.

Aims & Scope

Research Synthesis Methods is a multidisciplinary peer reviewed journal devoted to the development and dissemination of methods for designing, conducting, analysing, interpreting, reporting, and applying systematic research synthesis.

Papers may address:

- Statistical methods

- Empirical research and simulations

- Literature retrieval and information science

- Data extraction

- Software

- Graphics and reporting of synthesis results

- Issues of study quality

- Reporting or other systematic biases

- Narrative analysis and synthesis of qualitative data

- Synthesis of individual participant data

- Use of synthesis for developing practice guidelines

- Integration with cost effectiveness or decision analysis

- Comparison and integration of methods across different disciplines

- Techniques for application in different environments

- Applications that illustrate a novel methodology
