Ebook Trial from Joanna Briggs Institute on Systematic reviews

The Library is currently trialling some ebooks from the Joanna Briggs Institute via Books@OvidSP. It is a series of 7 titles looking at systematic reviews

The trial ends on the 13th July, 2012. We would love to hear your feedback regarding these titles to see if it is worthwhile the library subscribing to them. Please fill out an Evaluation Form!

Access the Ebooks here!

The Titles are:

Translation Science and The JBI Model of Evidence-Based HealthcareThe first book of the series seeks to examine the translational research process in relation to the JBI Model of Evidence Based Healthcare – clarifying how the three translation gaps identified in the text and the elements of the JBI Model complement each other in modeling the relationship between the translation science cycle and the pragmatic evidence-based healthcare cycle.

Synthesizing Qualitative EvidenceWith methods to synthesize qualitative evidence emerging, this book examines the methodological bases of qualitative synthesis and describes the processes involved in the conduct of a rigorous synthesis of qualitative evidence, with a particular focus on Meta- Aggregation.

Synthesizing Evidence from Narrative, Text and OpinionThe third book of the series explores different sources of knowledge for clinical decision-making; it is frequently the case that knowledge from different sources may be applicable (and/or available) to inform a particular procedure or intervention.

Synthesizing Quantitative EvidenceProviding an overview to new reviewers and students, this book contains the fundamental knowledge, principals and processes for the synthesis of quantitative data in reviews of the effectiveness of health care interventions.

Synthesizing Evidence of Risk As the primary focus of this volume, synthesis of evidence related to risk related to a deleterious, adverse outcome and treatment is increasingly important and relevant— evidenced by the increasing number of systematic reviews and meta-analyses appearing in publication.

Synthesizing Evidence of Diagnostic Accuracy
Clinicians have long relied upon diagnostic tests for ‘evidence’ of the presence or absence of a disease or a condition while policy makers evaluate the value of a particular diagnostic test. This text examines the methodological basis to the synthesis of diagnostic test accuracy data and describes the processes involved in the conduct of a diagnostic test accuracy systematic review.

Synthesizing Economic Evidence
The last book of the series presents step-by-step methodological guidance for systematic reviews of economic evidence select, critique and synthesize data from multiple economic evaluation primary research studies on the economic aspects of healthcare—that are designed to inform healthcare decision making.

Handbook for Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Work

The Handbook for Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Work is a practical tool written for Aboriginal drug and alcohol workers, mental health workers and others working in this field. It offers a detailed look at alcohol and drug work from clinical, through to prevention, early intervention and harm reduction. This handbook is also likely to help people working to improve policy and those advocating for change. The idea for it came from workers all over Australia. They told us that they needed an easy to use handbook that can help them respond to the range of alcohol and drug issues they face every day. They also told us that such a book needs to take into account the complex challenges facing workers when helping clients, their families and, sometimes, whole communities.

Read a copy online for free or purchase a copy online for $22.50 per copy (postage included)

Would you like:
Free, secure, sustainable digital data storage which you control?
Help promoting your research?

Contact Health Sciences Faculty Liaison Librarians , Belinda Norman or Kate Stanton to see if we can help raise your profile by making information about your research findable in Google, and in Research Data Australia (http://services.ands.org.au/home/orca/rda/ ), a national showcase of research. Following is some information on the project.

Seeding the Commons Project.

The federally funded Seeding the Commons project will help establish data management planning processes to support storage, identification, discovery and, where appropriate, sharing of primary research data. Partners include Research Portfolio, Library and ICT.

Project Activities:
· Description of research data collections for discovery on the web
· Creation of a data management planning tutorial
· Website providing research data management support
· Guidelines to support research data management

Project staff will work to deliver the following benefits:
· Information about researchers and projects will be findable in Google, increasing profile and collaboration opportunities.
· Increased impact through data citation.
· Reduced risk of data loss through data management storage and support.
· Establishment of ongoing research data management services.

We'd like to interview you, in order to describe your data collections for discovery on the web. For more information, Contact Health Sciences Faculty Liaison Librarian, Belinda Norman or Kate Stanton.
